Amad a Otros - Love One Another
Our ward theme for February was "Amad a Otros" (Love One Another) and we were able to plan a Valentines Dance for the ward. My goal (I am ward activity leader) was to involve investigators or new members. Christie Ortiz, the newest member, was the perfect person to help me. She is organized, creative, detail oriented, and on top of all of that her energy exceeds that of the Energizer Bunny. She was so excited to jump in and help me with the decorations and the "vision" I had for this dance.
We asked Tony, an artist and also a brand new member, to draw and make a tree trunk for our "tree of hearts". We had the primary help make hearts for the tree so that they would be involved too.
Kyle and I have been involved in a weekly dance group with Gely, an investigator, who is dating a member. We asked her to put a group together for a demonstration and teach some dances that night. We learned the salsa, the merengue, and the waltz.
The Best Part
We were surprised when 15 investigators showed up that night! The missionary sisters, Sisters Hahne and Baez work so hard to invite all to "Come and See" and we were so happy with those who responded to the call. It was such a fun evening. We have been so blessed here in this area. The church is growing and we are happy to be involved in the work.
Kyle was labeled the "boogie salsa" dancer and everyone was talking about it for the next few days. They were pretty impressed that "gringos" (white people) could learn to dance. We have had a great time trying!
