The Three Musketeers
Last Sunday, Julian was confirmed and given the gift of the Holy Ghost along with his mother. Their baptism was Saturday, the 4th of January, 2020. Kyle was asked to do the baptisms and we had a full house at the baptisms like always. I sang with the sister missionaries and the bishop's wife, "I'll Find You My Friend" or ...in Spanish, "Te Hallare" which was recycled from my music file when I lived here in 1990. The younger boy, Ian, decided the next day that he was ready to be baptized too and told the sister missionaries. I think he just wanted to watch Momma and big brother first. Well, my highlight of the whole thing was being asked to be a witness at the font for Liliana and Julian. It was my first time being a witness. I was able to do so, because of a recent change in church policy that now permits any baptized member of the church, male or female, to be a witness for a baptism. Pretty cool huh?

We love this family and we have been blessed to know them. They are so sweet and Julian will be an amazing missionary and leader in the church when he is older. I am so impressed with his desire to do what is right. He already completed reading the Book of Mormon on his own. He is thirsty for the gospel of Jesus Christ.
After church, he, along with two other boys were given the Aaronic Priesthood. I call them the Three Musketeers because they are all eleven years old and they stick together. It was pretty special to witness these priesthood ordinations. The spirit was really strong.
I also got set apart for my new calling which is basically the Activities Leader for the ward. The Bishop wants me to create activities and opportunity that will help the ward to grow. I am excited to do this and I have already had ideas flowing through my brain. Once I get a calling, I am consumed by it. This is not a bad thing; in fact, I find that church callings give me more energy. There is only one problem. Doing things over here in another language is like doing a calling with your hands tied behind your back. It is extra difficult because I don't have a wide range of vocabulary (although I am learning several words a day). I feel like this calling will be good for me because I will organize the PEOPLE to do the work and they will be the ones who will talk, give classes, conduct activities, and so forth. Can I do this calling with virtually no words? We will see.
I am happy to be serving and life is wonderful in my opinion when you are giving of your time, talents, and energy. I call it the Pollyanna effect. It makes you AND those you serve happy. Not feeling it? I challenge you to try serving more.
